Lost in thought while using my computer and on the phone, I was sitting in my living room when I heard a loud thud against the window. I wasn't able to check right away, but when I finally looked outside, I saw a little bird lying on its back, still breathing but looking injured.

At first, I thought it was just a bird casually hitting the window, although it sounded a bit worse than usual. But as I took a closer look, my heart sank. A tiny bird was lying on its back, still breathing but looking injured.

Despair washed over me as I realized this was more than just a casual bump. I knew I had to do something to help. When I picked the bird up, it gripped my finger with its talons, and I had to be careful not to hurt it as I carried it to a vacant nesting box with a soft nest inside.

It was heartbreaking to see the bird so vulnerable, but I hoped that my small act of kindness could make a difference. It didn't want to let go of my finger as I carefully placed it inside the box, and I hoped it was a sign that it was going to be okay.

I closed the door to keep it safe from predators, and I waited and watched, hoping for the best. After about 30 minutes, I checked on it, and to my relief, it was gone. I like to think that the bird recovered and flew away, ready to continue its life.

I remember feeling grateful that I was able to help in some small way. Even though I didn't immediately check on the bird when I heard the noise, something called me to check on it, and I'm glad I did. When someone comes along and lends us a helping hand, sometimes that can make all of the difference in the world and be that one thing we needed to survive what could have been a very bad experience. Much like this little bird, we all hit bumps along the way, and it's okay to accept help and support when we need it.
